So, going in, about the only details that I knew of the book was that the main character was named Kvothe (pronounced “quothe”) and that this story was about his past.įrom a third-person point of view, we are introduced to innkeeper Kote, his associate Bast, and the Chronicler. Because of all of the advance praise surrounding the novel, I’ve tried to refrain as much as possible from reading any reviews or related articles as I wanted to experience “ The Name of the Wind” without any preconceptions. Continuing the trend in 2007 is Patrick Rothfuss and his much acclaimed debut “ The Name of the Wind”. Whether or not these novels actually lived up to expectations is a topic for another day :).

If she only had a small role to play, I’d probably be able to overlook it more easily. The only reason why I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because I can’t STAND Denna, one of the main characters.
I recently saw he already got his own ‘Kvothe Six-String hero card’ in Sentinels of the Multiverse, one of my favourite boardgames. Kvothe, the protagonist of the story, has great potential to become one of the greatest hero’s of modern fiction.
If you’re into the Fantasy genre, but also if you just enjoy a good story, I highly recommend this book. Here’s a piece of amazing fan art of what the University could look like: Way different though, although it’s easy to draw comparisons when it comes to schools for magic. It started out as a supernatural/horror story and before I knew it, it turned into a Harry Potter kind of atmosphere. Nevertheless, it DID turn out to be a great book Patrick Rothfuss is a good storyteller and can smoothly blend different storylines together. That always makes me very sceptical when I start reading it myself. I heard a lot about this book and how great it supposedly should be.
