The two wake one ordinary morning, and Will slips a gorgeous Cartier ring on her finger before leaving for the airport he’s headed to a techie conference in Orlando – or so he says. The narrator, Iris Griffith, is a young woman still crazy in love with her husband, Will, after seven years of marriage. The Marriage Lie is a thriller that will shoot a chill down your spine and push you to keep turning the pages until you finish it. It was the perfect afternoon, and this book was the cherry on top. I read this book on a bright sunny April day while my forehead threatened to sunburn and my dog lay on his side next to me, panting in the hot sun.
Parrish and The Wife Between Us will surely enjoy this book. The Marriage Lie by Kimberly Belle is in that same vein, but it earned a 5 star rating from me – fans of The Good Widow, The Last Mrs. The plot seems to be: husband is hiding devastating secret from wife, wife figures out secret, wife fights for her life to survive said secret. I feel like I have been reading the same book over and over again – not necessarily in a bad way as each one is slightly different than the last. (Dec.“How can you love a person you don’t really know?” This is not a unique premise, and Belle’s ( The Last Breath) main villain is a little bit cookie-cutter, but numerous skillfully executed twists will force readers to constantly shift their allegiances from character to character, never entirely sure who to trust or what’s really going on. Each piece of the puzzle seems to create more questions than answers, especially once Iris’s phone begins receiving anonymous text messages ranging from concerned to outright threatening. With the help of her brother, Dave, Iris attempts to learn why Will was bound for Seattle, and in the process, she discovers that almost everything she knew about Will is a total fabrication, including his birthplace and his friendships-and there’s also a large sum of money suddenly missing from the company where he worked. When a plane bound for Seattle that same day crashes and kills everyone on board, Iris is stunned to discover Will’s name on the passenger manifest, and the conference in Orlando at which he was scheduled to speak turns out not to exist at all. Will and Iris Griffith have the perfect marriage and a dream home, and they’ve just started talking about children on the morning that Will leaves for a business trip in Orlando.
